Dear Diary,
After a lovely mexican dinner de "casa bonita" with 20+ camp counselors present, tonight was basically a quick recap of what it was like to be in highschool with no place to go. we got quite an impressive caravan of five cars cruising vashon looking for god knows what- some sort of an amazing and entertaining opportunity to present itself. we made sure to play lots of loud music out of the saab so the surrounding vehicles were aware of how awesome we were. then of course we return to camp to the same old haunts for internet use and hip hop dance parties. the highlight was definitely when my lovely co workers told the waiters that it was my birthday, everyone sang "happy birthday shamu" and i got a hot picture of me with a sombrero on and free flan.
today was open house, i gave some tours to nice parents and their enthusiastic kids. i liked it because i got to talk a lot and i had a very captive audience. i'm starting to realize how gullible kids are which will surely provide hours of entertainment this summer.

Diana

Dear Diary,
so tonight i got my staff tie. never have i been so proud in my life. i wanna wear it everyday here but that would make me a loser because everyone else only wears them the first and last days of every session. but i'm not here to look cool.
many funny things happen here all day long but i can never remember them in time to write them on my website. earlier some of the girls and i decided that since we obviously aren't going to find husbands here we will look for bridesmaids instead.
one of my earlobes is bigger than the other on account of a bug bite and i look lopsided.

Diana

Dear Diary,
so today was "wail lunch" and village was hosting it. we decided the theme should be "euro trash", which was the best idea EVER, but then we had to change it to "off the catwalk" because our new ACD, Robby, was coming today and he is british. we didn't think that making fun of the euros was a good way to welcome the ol chap to this side of the pond. but back to the meal, it's over but i don't want to take off my outfit quite yet. i am so fantastically accesorized. woah got to go learn about asthma now...more later, PROMISE

Dear Diary,
There are fifty people waiting for me to get off this computer but i don't care.
We have been roughing it here at camp sealth- overnights two nights in a row. While we were surviving in the wilderness I played some ultimate frisbee, made some pie iron pizzas, tripped over countless roots in the middle of trails, played capture the flag, discovered peanut butter smores, bonded with my new friends flipper, ariel, roxy, lille, pony, moss and so many more, and realized that there are countless things that i will learn here the hard way.
the people to the left of me are playing ping pong with a bouncy ball and it is not very successful. my annoyance is hard to hide.
I cornered the furry maintnence man who showed my cabin group how to weld when i was 12, and he's all about letting me weld with him on my breaks even though they don't do it with the campers any more. i hope he knows that shamu is completely serious about his offer.

Diana

Dear Diary,
My website fodder needs to improve dramatically if i am going to sustain my readership. last weeks site meter report was disappointing to say the least. i think it's because i am using all of my creative energy impressing all of my new best friends and i just have nothing left for the website. add that to the pressure of using a computer where someone is always breathing down my throat to hurry up and of course the writing won't be as quality.
today all the other camp counselors played fun yak soccer and i sat on the beach and painted my nails... I'm saving my fun yak soccer energy for the campers. or it could be argued that i'm missing out on a good opportunity to practice a new thing that i will definitely need later but i don't want to look at it that way.
so far i haven't laughed so hard that i almost pee my pants, i hope that doesn't mean that the summer isn't going to go well. I don't necessarily like meeting all of these new people, because i feel like i am always making an ass out of myself.
Love,
Diana

Dear Diary,
So far my summer job is amazingly fun but this is because we haven't started the working part yet. It is exactly like camp when i was little, except you don't have to bring a buddy with you if you want to go to the bathroom. Today i made a candle for my dad, and then we took the swim test and i almost died on account of the water being 52 degrees farenheit. for my international readers this is not very many degrees celcius. i'm not sure how few exactly. the actual swim part is not so bad because it's over as soon as you swim between the docks, but there is this other part where you have to get into a canoe with 3 other incompetents, flip it over, and then paddle it back to the shore completely full of water. i've probably performed this task about 7 or 8 times in my camp sealth experience and so far the skill has not come in handy in the field. so i think we should stop doing this terrifying practice. building character is way overrated.
The best thing we have done so far is a bit of an iron chef competition with coleman stoves. each group of counselors got a random assortment of ingredients and we had to make a two course meal. Our group made what i call chocolate corn crispy treats. basically your normal rice crispy treats minus the rice plus crushed corn chips and chocolate chips. it was amazing and tasty and out of all the awards given we won "best tasting." I think that speaks for itself.

Diana
